To Blog or not to blog? Two Years Later

(This is an edited version of my article from 10-2006)

To Blog or not to blog?

To respond to blogs or not respond?

That is the question.

Whether it is better to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous... Exposure (?)

Over the last two years I have become an active participant it this site. Some strange and unexcepted things have been happening.

For health reasons I pretty much work from home, writing, consulting, working on my publishing business with occasional trips out to teach or speak. Two years ago I said: "To promote my books I syndicate articles, and it's done quite well." I don't syndicate much any more. Each article/blog carries the same key words that lead people to my web sites. Every article/blog carries my name, William J Archambault Jr, The Real Estate Investment Institute, and REII in the key words to lead people to me and the web sites. This has worked well for me, my articles are normally republished in seven countries on three continents, in three languishes (Why is beyond me, I have yet to sell a book outside of the USA.). My "A Consumers Guide To Mortgage Brokers and The Evil Yield Spread Premium" has to be one of the most republished internet real estate articles ever. (It has now, also been republished twice on Active Rain.) Every republishing carries my key words.

Now a long came bloging. I blog, but it's hard for me because I have to have something to say. I'm to set in my ways and too conservative to talk in sound bytes. Incomplete sentences drive me crazy. I'm a story teller for God's sake! But, blogs can be just a few words long, that's a lot easier than an essay or article, most importantly each blog carries my three key words along with the blog reverent ones!

I was very fortunate to spend more than a decade as an active member of Chapter # 1, of the Farm and Land Institute, wonderful people that helped each other. I believe a person finds what they're looking for. I've always look for good people and I found them in FLI, and now here. Good people help each other! I know, now Active Rain and the participants are good people!

Bloging isn't quite as up close and personal as FLI was, but it's helping others knowing that good things come around. Besides long nights, shrimp cocktails, and vodka gimlets are no longer part of my diet! Beer can't even be considered! Damn!

I respond to interesting blogs, sharing information and sharpening both our arguments. It's easy to participate the Blogger has already picked the subject, and hopefully develop the idea enough that all you need are a few words to enlarge it, redirect it, or pat the blogger on the back.

It's fun, I've bantered back and forth with some great people that I now would call friend' I hope someday to make that Friend with a capital "F"! .

Now the payoff, remember "what goes around comes around," My search engine hits have at least tripled because I come up not only on my key words, but also all those of the blogers, I comment on.

(Two years later, AR has gone from 10,000 members to nearly 100,000 and I still feel the same!)

As always,

Bill

Feel Good Blogs Are Good For Your Soul

I'm on Active Rain, and others for the exchange of ideas on real estate! It also helps to promote my books, CDs and services, I preach real estate and mortgages. I claim mine is a kinder gentler approach to opportunity real estate investment and mortgage lending. I'd like to think that people are better off having read what I write, but generally I leave your soul to others.

I believe our blogs can be catagorize as: a waste of time, pure ads, social, educational, and feel good. The first two are not worth commenting on. I like some of the social blogs I've correspond with some people that I feel very close with, I haven't meet them yet but I will. Your list may be totally different than mine but so what! I only read the blogs that interest me. When I first came on line back in August of 2006 I tried to read them all and listed all but the educational as a waste of time. I was wrong I needed to get more involved and learn who I was reading and writing to.

The serious stuff, the educational, is my reason for being here, AR provides today's best opportunity to exchange ideas with the best in real estate and lending. There is no better way to prefect your own ideas than bang heads with the best and listening to and discuss the ideas with bright novices. All to many sales people burn-out, dry-up, or change fields simply because they became isolated from their peers, to remain current and relevant it's necessary to interact with more than just your customers. You've got to be involved, knowing all about the NINA, 100%, with a 580 FICO is irreverent it's gone! You've got to stay involved. The better a salesman gets, in his own market and even his own office the more isolated he gets, once isolation occurs it's only a matter of time until he finds out he's obsolete.

Feel Good Blogs, are good for your soul! At first I thought these bits of non-sense were another waste of time. Again, I was wrong. Even the best of sales people face rejection every time they go to work those with lesser people skills face even more. The feel good blogers do more to help sales people that even the reader knows! Many of us preach hell and brimstone in the educational blogs but after you've learned real estate, lending, or investing you've got to go out and make the sale! Nothing helps you to make a sale as much as a positive attitude and a smile!

Feel good blogers preach a gentle loving feel good doctrine. On AR the sect is lead by The Revered Right Reverend TLW a recent example of her roaring sermonsDo You Know The Origins Of The Smiley Face? I Do...ROAR! , typically leaves the readers with a smile on their face and a warm feeling in their heart. TLW always opens discussion on her sermons or BB's blogs with her own brand of prayer.

Look at the congregation, they add to the message. If you're selling you need to feel good and if you read these endless post you can't help but have a better day. Like a revival meeting, the Laity chimes in with lots of nice words and their own testimony take a look at Deacons:

Rick & Ines - Miami Shores Real Estate Professionals Jump in not ounce but four times and if the laughing baby doesn't make you smile, get out of sales.

Ann Cummings ~ Portsmouth NH & So. ME Areas Went to some effort to add to the occasion.

Cyber Café & Back Porch Conversations Jay Merton & Medford Ambrose-The Codgers Provide photos of a friends effort to share the feeling.

Nick M. - Appraiser in West Palm - South Florida Real Estate Appraiser - Proves there's hope for the world, a jovial appraiser in a falling market, if he can smile we all can.

I've never understood "talking in tongues" but it seems to work on the internet.

Jeff Dowler Had a short but original contribution.

Laurie Manny Had by far the best illustration.

TLW herself shows us with one word and a photo that no matter how fierce we might be, the female of the species rules!

Jeff Link ASR,E-Pro, GRI, Anyone who'll drive all day so his son can try out for a band and preform in a play all in one long day has got to make you smile. TLW attracts nice people.

Feel good blogs, I for one smiled when I read the blog, I smiled when I read the never ending comments and I smiled when I wrote about them. I'll bet the people I mentioned and their friends will smile again when they read this. Smiling is good for your soul, there for feel good bloging is good for your soul!

Keep on blogging!

Bill
